Broadstairs, which is called “The Jewel in Thanet’s Crown” is located on the eastern tip of Thanet. It has become known as one of the most beautiful seaside resorts in the country.

The High Street is the main hub of Broadstairs. There is a wide range of independent shops which includes butchers, bakers, greengrocers, card shops, gift shops, to name but a few. There are also supermarkets, including Tesco’s, Iceland and the Co-op. At the lower end of the High Street, you will find Viking Bay, one of seven glorious sandy beaches that Broadstairs boasts.

The town has a variety of pubs, bars and restaurants to suit every taste from English, Italian, Chinese, Indian, and also of course the quintessentially popular seaside food, Fish and Chips.

There are numerous nursery schools, primary schools and secondary schools to choose from in and around Broadstairs.

Broadstairs has a fascinating history. Charles Dickens wrote some of his most famous books whilst staying in the town, and there is the Dickens Museum on Victoria Parade on the seafront. Thomas Crampton, a Victorian engineer was a Broadstairs man, and the town now has the Crampton Museum which was once a water tower. Built in 1785 as a private residence, Pierremont Hall, in the centre of Broadstairs High Street is a Grade II Listed building. The Hall was built in 1785 for Thomas Forsyth and designed by Samuel Pepys Cockerell. The Duchess of Kent and a young Princess Victoria holidayed at Pierremont from 1826 to 1836.

There are festivals and events during the year, including Folk Week, Dickens Week, two Food Festivals and Blues Weekend. We are also fortunate to have many firework displays at Viking Bay during the summer.

Broadstairs is readily accessible by train or road. There is a half hourly service to London St Pancras as well as trains to London Victoria and Canterbury so the town is perfect for commuters. There are also good local bus routes which provide access to the surrounding towns of Ramsgate and Margate via the “Loop” service as well as routes to Canterbury and the surrounding villages. There is also a National Express Route which runs between Broadstairs and London Victoria.
