Birchington-on-Sea is a village which lies on the North Thanet coast, between the seaside resorts of Herne Bay and Margate. Minnis Bay is the main family beach of Birchington with activities including as swimming, sailing, windsurfing and numerous coastal walking routes.

Birchington has a large vibrant High Street filled with independent shops including bakeries, cafes, greengrocers, butchers and gift shops. There is also a number of supermarkets. There is a variety of pubs and restaurants to suit every taste from English, Chinese, Indian, Greek to name but a few, and also of course the quintessentially popular seaside food, Fish and Chips.

The village was first recorded in 1240. Its parish church, All Saints’, dates to the 13 century and its churchyard is the burial place of the 19th century Pre-Raphaelite artist, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the brother of the renowned poet, Christina Rossetti, who worte “In the Bleak Mid-Winter”. Quex Park is also located in Birchington. This is a historic Manor House, which houses an impressive museum that contains a large collection of stuffed exotic animal collected by Major Percy Powell-Cotton on his travels in Africa. It also houses artefacts unearthed in and around Birchington by his daughter Antoinette Powell-Cotton, a keen archaeologist. Quex Park also houses an excellent farm shop and restaurant, selling local produce and fresh ingredients which certainly delight the taste buds.

There are numerous nursery schools, primary schools and secondary schools to choose from in and around Birchington.

Birchington has a railway station which provides services to London Victoria in approximately 90 minutes. Canterbury is ten miles to the west of Birchington and can be easily accessed by car. The main A299 is two miles west of Birchington which provides easy access to the M2, M20 and M25. There are also very good local bus routes, providing access to Margate, Canterbury and Herne Bay.
